Social Media Policy
Effective Date: August 1, 2026 · Last Updated: August 2026
This policy governs the official social media accounts of Cory Calendine, MD, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and the Google Business Profile. It explains what these accounts are for, how comments and messages are handled, and what you should and should not share. By commenting on or messaging these accounts, you agree to the terms below.
What These Accounts Are For
These accounts exist to share general orthopaedic education about hip and knee arthritis, joint replacement surgery, recovery, and related topics, along with practice news and occasional personal content. They are a publishing channel, not a care channel.
Posts, Comments, and Replies Are Not Medical Advice
Everything published on these accounts, including replies to comments and answers to questions, is general education. It is not individualized medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not account for your history, your imaging, or your examination. No reply on social media should be used to make a decision about your care, to start or stop a treatment, or to delay seeing a physician.
No Physician-Patient Relationship Is Created
Following, commenting, messaging, tagging, or receiving a reply does not make you a patient of Dr. Calendine and does not create a physician-patient relationship. That relationship begins only with a scheduled clinical evaluation at the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee.
Do Not Post Private Health Information
Comments on social media are public and are indexed by search engines. Please do not post your diagnosis, symptoms, medications, surgical history, imaging, test results, dates of service, or any other identifying health information in a public comment.
If you post private health information publicly, it is visible to anyone. We may hide or remove such comments to protect your privacy, but we cannot control who has already seen, copied, or shared them.
We Will Not Confirm Whether You Are a Patient
To protect patient privacy, we will not confirm, deny, or discuss whether any individual is or has been a patient of Dr. Calendine, and we will not discuss any person’s care in a public thread or in a direct message. This applies even when the individual raises the subject themselves. Replies to comments that reference personal care will redirect to the office.
Direct Messages Are Not a Secure Channel
Direct messages on Instagram, Facebook Messenger, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and similar platforms are operated by third-party companies. They are not encrypted for healthcare use, they are not HIPAA-compliant, and they are not reviewed by clinical staff. Do not send health records, imaging, prescriptions, insurance information, or personal medical details through any social platform.
Current patients should use the practice’s approved channels: call (615) 791-2630 during business hours, or use the patient portal provided by the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee.
We Cannot Review Imaging or Records Sent Through Social Media
X-rays, MRI reports, operative notes, and similar materials sent through comments or direct messages will not be opened, reviewed, or given a clinical opinion, and they will not be added to any medical record. If you would like Dr. Calendine to review your imaging, schedule a consultation. No referral is required.
These Accounts Are Not Monitored for Emergencies
Social media accounts are checked periodically during business hours and are not monitored continuously. There is no guaranteed response time, and some comments and messages will not receive a reply.
If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Symptoms that require immediate attention include chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden calf pain or swelling, fever with a surgical wound, drainage from an incision, or an inability to bear weight after a fall. Do not wait for a reply on social media.
Comment Moderation
These are moderated accounts. We may hide, delete, or report comments, and restrict or block accounts, in situations including:
- Comments containing private health information, whether the poster’s own or someone else’s
- Harassment, threats, profanity, or discriminatory language
- Spam, solicitation, or promotion of unrelated products or services
- Unverified or misleading medical claims
- Content that infringes copyright or another party’s rights
- Repeated off-topic posting
Moderation decisions are made at our discretion. Hiding or removing a comment is not a comment on its accuracy, and declining to answer a question is not a clinical judgment about the person asking.
Patient Comments, Reviews, and Testimonials
Comments describing a patient’s own experience represent that individual only. They are not clinical evidence and are not predictive of the outcome any other patient will have. Individual results vary. Patients are never compensated for reviews or comments. Reviews are not solicited in exchange for anything of value.
Patient images, quotes, and stories are published only with written authorization. If you have given authorization and wish to withdraw it, contact the office and the content will be removed from accounts we control. Content that has been shared or reposted by others may not be removable.
Industry Relationships and Product Mentions
Dr. Calendine is a paid consultant to Stryker® for the Mako® robotic-arm platform. Posts that discuss that technology carry this disclosure. Product mentions reflect the equipment used in his practice and are educational rather than promotional. No manufacturer reviews or approves content before it is posted.
Third-Party Content, Links, and Platform Behavior
Links shared in comments by other users are not reviewed or endorsed. Content that appears alongside these accounts, including advertising, suggested posts, and recommended accounts, is placed by the platform and is outside our control. Each platform has its own terms of service and privacy policy, which govern your use of that platform.
Following, Tagging, and Sharing
Following an account, being followed back, or being tagged in a post does not imply a clinical relationship or an endorsement. Please do not tag Dr. Calendine or the practice in posts containing another person’s health information.
Accessibility
We work to make social content accessible, including captions on video and descriptive alternative text on images. If you encounter content you cannot access, contact the office and we will provide it in another format.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated. The Last Updated date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of these accounts after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
